Ontario Helping HIV-Positive Mothers Deliver Healthy Babies

Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care – Ontario is helping more HIV-positive mothers and women at risk of HIV get the care they need to deliver healthy babies.

The province is supporting the expansion of the Positive Pregnancy Programme, which offers medical care to HIV-positive mothers in the Greater Toronto Area. As a result of the expansion, approximately 40 expecting mothers will have access to midwifery care each year.

The Positive Pregnancy Programme provides care to mothers and babies throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and during the first weeks following birth. The program offers services that help HIV-positive women significantly reduce the chance of passing the virus to their child.
