Your First Job! How to Succeed and Grow Professionally

This webinar from the New Professionals Working Group will focus on how to make the most of your initial work experiences during your early career in public health. Panelists with a diverse range of experiences will share their expertise on how to advance as a new professional. Topics will include important transferable skills, characteristics of successful new professionals, and tips to achieve success and growth.

Presenters

Tammy C. Yates is the Manager of Programs and Communications at the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation (CWGHR). Prior to joining CWGHR, she has held a wide range of leadership positions including serving as the Officer-in-Charge/National Program Manager of the UN Population Fund Trinidad and Tobago Branch Office, Program Officer with the Secretariat of the Caribbean Regional Network of Persons Living With HIV, Chair of the Theme Group on Gender of the UN System in Trinidad & Tobago, and National Vice-President of Public and Community Relations for the National Association of Administrative Professionals of Trinidad & Tobago. Tammy graduated from Wolfson College, Cambridge University and the University of the West Indies,Trinidad.

Peggy Grovers is a Registered Nurse and the Manager of the Child Health Program for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Peggy holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Masters of Science in Nursing Administration, both from Western. She has worked in public health since 1997 and is a member of the Ontario Public Health Association.

Tin Vo is a Health Promoter in the Health Protection Division at Brant County Health Unit, and has been in that role for a little over one year. His work focuses on program planning and evaluation for five program areas: environmental health, sexual health, infectious diseases, vaccine preventable diseases, and oral health. Tin sits on the OPHA Board of Directors as the Treasurer. He is also a member of a project with the OPHA Built Environment Workgroup that is building education modules to increase capacity for both public health and land use planning professionals to work together on built environment and human health issues. Tin completed his Master of Public Health, specializing in health promotion, from the University of Alberta in 2013.
