SunSense – Sun safe policies, Sun safe schools
Outdoor play and physical activity are critical to children’s health and development. Appropriate sun safety habits are essential to reduce risk of skin cancer, one of the most common and preventable forms of cancer, and to maximize the enjoyment and health benefits associated with regular outdoor activities.
The #SunSense program, a collaboration between the Canadian Cancer Society (Ontario Division), Evergreen, and Ophea, supports schools in creating a sun safe environment and provides a “how-to” guide for schools to create a #SunSense policy to protect staff and students through education and awareness of sun safe practices. The program also includes free tools and resources to support policy implementation. Learning about sun safety and how to enjoy the outdoors in a healthy and safe way is an essential part of every child’s education.
