SickKids Inaugural Mindfulness Research Symposium

A Mindfulness Research Symposium open to the public, dedicated to Research in Mindfulness, it’s applications, approaches & methodologies. Scientific research in Mindfulness-based practice will be presented together with an exploration of how this research may impact the practical use of mindfulness as a therapeutic, scientific and wellness-enhancing approach in healthcare institutions and beyond. An area of special interest includes methods to consistently quantify the experience of the practitioner and participant, in order to incorporate these data into the ongoing exploration of the efficacy and benefits of Mindfulness.

Our Aspiration: To inspire, envision, collaborate, network, inform, support, and stimulate, research in Mindfulness. Through this symposium we will explore the approaches, applications, modalities, and methodologies of Mindfulness, and the growing body of evidence to support the application of Mindfulness-based practice to benefit wellbeing, health, self-awareness, and resilience.

With Guest Speakers: Dr. Zindel Segal, Dr. Norman Farb , Dr. Dzung Ho, Dr. Danielle Ruskin, Elli Weisbaum as well as SickKids Staff applying these modalities, and Specialists in the field,

Call for Poster Presentations

Overview:

This Symposium is dedicated to research in mindfulness, it’s applications, approaches & methodologies. Scientific research in Mindfulness-based practice will be presented together with an exploration of how this research may impact the practical use of mindfulness as a therapeutic, scientific and wellness-enhancing approach, in healthcare institutions and beyond. An area of special interest includes methods to consistently quantify the experience of the practitioner and participant, in order to incorporate these data into the ongoing exploration of the efficacy and benefits of Mindfulness.

The poster session promises an opportunity to engage in an informal yet highly interactive presentation of emerging ideas, experience, and challenges. This session will create an opportunity for engagement in discussion and the potential for new ideas & collaborations in Mindfulness Research to emerge.

Submission Process:

Proposals need to include a title and description of your work (abstract) and how the poster relates to the theme of the Symposium: Mindfulness Research. The poster is to include: An issue/problem/inquiry needing resolution, the action taken, the outcome/data, insight or wisdom gained, the name of the institution/organization, contact name, email address, phone. Please submit by e-mail to: mindfulness.project@sickkids.ca

Abstracts:

Can be from 250 to 500 words in length. As posters are a visual medium please provide some information on how your poster will convey the information visually. Explain how the data was gathered and evaluated. Ensuring that you convey clearly the purpose of the poster presentation.

Deadline For Submission: August 20th, 2018.

Submissions selected will be notified by September 1st,2018

Dimensions: 3’ x 6’ (surface size will be 4’ x 8’)

Set Up: 7-8 AM, September 20th, 2018

Poster Sessions:

Requirement will be to have at least one author present during the poster sessions. Participants will be encouraged to engage in inspired conversation around the posters at several times on the day of the Mindfulness Research Symposium, specifically from early morning, lunch break and Afternoon, September 20th, 2018 (TBD exact times will be confirmed after submission, Symposium is free admission)

All costs for presenting and participating in the Symposium are the responsibility of the presenting authors.
