SHIFT: Innercity Health Conference – Reimagining Prison Health

When: April 23, 2016
Time: 9:00 am
Where: Dalla Lana School of Public Health

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

“Health care is the most grieved area of offender complaint followed by segregation, cell effects, conditions of confinement, and visit.”
– Ivan Zinger, Executive Director and General Counsel
Office of the Correctional Investigator of Canada

The first annual SHIFT: Innercity Health Conference – Reimagining Prison Health, amplifies voices of incarcerated communities and front-line health workers coming together to shed light on health inequities, and create a call to action for change.

SHIFT is about transforming innercity health through dialogue and action. The 2016 theme is inspired by prison justice advocates around the world seeking to provide equitable health care for all.

Reimagining Prison Health is a one day intensive conference featuring two unique streamsdedicated to inspiring discussion and action. Attendees may join sessions in either stream throughout the day.

Stream A: Expanding Strategy

Expanding strategy is about inspiring dialogue, and generating ideas to shift paradigms within policy, and governance. The presentations will challenge attendees to call out health inequities, and participate in ideas for change.

Stream B: Practice Focused

Practice focus is dedicated to illuminating work that is being done on the ground, and mobilizing real-world tools for health-care workers, and advocates. Be prepared to put your mind toward the critical evaluation of our current health practices, and the development of new approaches for change.
