Britain takes on obesity, by paying people to lose weight

Like many countries, Britain faces an obesity epidemic, even as it faces a projected shortfall in health funding. And so, the National Health Service has announced it will offer cash incentives for people to lose weight. The 'pounds for pounds' idea is controversial and many wonder just how effective a weight loss incentive program can be.

The New Brunswick Medical Society said the province’s high obesity rates would be one of the priorities discussed during the society’s first meeting with new Health Minister Victor Boudreau. CEO Anthony Knight said they are working on initiatives like pushing for healthier lunch menus at schools and partnering with RunNB on a program called Small Strides, Healthy Lives.
