Pediatric Nutrition Guidelines (Birth to Six Years) for Health Professionals

Breastfeeding & Childhood Nutrition The Pediatric Nutrition Guidelines (Birth to Six Years) for Health Professionals were developed by members of the Family Health Nutrition Advisory Group of Ontario Dietitians in Public Health (ODPH is previously known as the Ontario Society for Nutrition Professionals in Public Health/OSNPPH).

This document outlines evidence-based nutrition and feeding guidelines for healthy, full-term infants and children up to 6 years of age.

Information is separated by childrens age group and categorized by three main categories: guidelines, milestones and red flags. It also provides information on expressed breast milk, infant formula, growth monitoring and specific nutritional concerns such as vitamin D, iron, food allergies, choking prevention, fish consumption and methylmercury. Information on responsive feeding and division of responsibility are also included, along with NutriSTEP tools.

These guidelines were orginally published in 2014 and updated in 2019.
