Cultivating Healthy Communities - Lessons from the Field on Addressing Food Insecurity

Food Security & Access to Food This US-based policy brief describes programs and policies health care facilities may implement to improve their patients’ access to food after a family is identified as at risk of food insecurity. Options are grouped by level of effort involved (Level 1 is most easily achieved and Level 3 is more involved) so any healthcare facility, regardless of size or resources, should be able to find a way to help connect vulnerable patients with food resources. To ensure success, best practices for implementing new programs or adapting existing programs are also provided.
