NRC Webinar - Exploring Opportunities in Group Food Purchasing

| Online
NRC Webinar - Exploring Opportunities in Group Food Purchasing Research has shown that it can be difficult for smaller organizations to obtain healthier food and beverage products at an affordable price. One possible solution is for smaller organizations to join a group food purchasing arrangement. The advantages of group food purchasing include increased access to healthier food and beverage products and a price advantage compared to purchasing as an individual organization.

In this webinar, Wendy Smith, from MEALsource, will provide an overview of the benefits, as well as the process of joining a group food purchasing arrangement. You will also hear about lessons learned from Wendy’s experiences facilitating this type of food procurement.

This webinar is suited for anyone who is interested in purchasing healthier food and beverages for government or non-profit organizations.

This webinar has been funded by the FRESH-IT project through Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services. The FRESH-IT network is led by Dr. Catherine L. Mah at Dalhousie University in collaboration with Dr. Leia Minaker at the University of Waterloo, supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR FRN # KAL139697).

Wendy Smith, Contract Specialist, MEALsource

Wendy Smith has been employed in the institutional food service industry for over 25 years. Wendy’s professional history has provided years of hands-on healthcare experience, as well as an understanding of the challenge to provide high quality nutritious food on a limited organizational budget that is faced by all healthcare food service providers. Particularly relevant to the topic of group food purchasing, Wendy is experienced in providing consultation services to the foodservice industry to help increase local procurement opportunities and vendor education for institutional procurement in Ontario.
