SunSense - Sun safe policies, Sun safe schools

What: Webinar
When: April 7, 2016
Time: 12:00 PM

Outdoor play and physical activity are critical to children’s health and development. Appropriate sun safety habits are essential to reduce risk of skin cancer, one of the most common and preventable forms of cancer, and to maximize the enjoyment and health benefits associated with regular outdoor activities.

The #SunSense program, a collaboration between the Canadian Cancer Society (Ontario Division), Evergreen, and Ophea, supports schools in creating a sun safe environment and provides a "how-to" guide for schools to create a #SunSense policy to protect staff and students through education and awareness of sun safe practices. The program also includes free tools and resources to support policy implementation. Learning about sun safety and how to enjoy the outdoors in a healthy and safe way is an essential part of every child’s education.

In this webinar, the Canadian Cancer Society will introduce you to their free and easy to implement #SunSense campaign. Public Health Units, School Boards, school staff and other like-minded organizations are encouraged to attend and learn about the:
  • Importance of addressing skin cancer in Ontario;
  • Importance of sun safety education and sun safe environments for children;
  • SunSense policy toolkit and FREE implementation resources and;
  • Opportunities for collaboration to promote sun safety
